Marco Polo Marine Ltd’s wholly-owned Marco Polo Shipyard has been awarded NT$4.678 billion (S$198M) by Taiwan’s National Academy of Marine Research (NAMR) — the largest project in the division’s history.

The 4,000 GT oceanographic research vessel will be built over four years at the Batam shipyard, with engineering and commercial support from Singapore. Designed by Norwegian firm Skipteknisk AS, the vessel will meet dual-class CR and ABS standards and feature:

⚓ Dynamic Positioning 2 & diesel-electric propulsion with twin azimuth, bow, and retractable thrusters
🌱 Sustainable technologies: Battery Energy Storage System, Waste Heat Recovery, and low-noise UWN(R) design
🔬 Advanced scientific capabilities: wet & dry labs, multibeam sonar, CTD sensors, ROV A-frames, with equipment sourced from European OEMs
🕒 Endurance of 30+ days for extended research missions

Fully self-financed and complementing Marco Polo Marine’s offshore wind vessel operations, this project marks a major step in the Group’s expansion into high-value, specialised vessel construction supporting marine research and the blue economy.
